Financial Literacy Workshop in Bengaluru and Hyderabad
Introduction:
The Financial Literacy Workshops for high school students, held in both government and low-fee private schools, aimed to address a critical gap in fundamental financial knowledge. A large number of students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, lack essential financial education, leading to poor financial decision-making and long-term economic instability. By providing this education, the workshops sought to promote economic inclusion and foster civic responsibility among students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
The implementation of these workshops is a strategic investment in the future, addressing the knowledge gaps that currently exist and offering students insights into the various career opportunities available in the financial sector.
Program Overview:
The program was successfully conducted across 15 schools, including both urban and rural areas, and reached a total of 930 students, with 546 girls and 384 boys. In Hyderabad, 559 students participated, comprising 307 girls and 252 boys.
The financial literacy curriculum consisted of 10 comprehensive modules, delivered over a period of six months. These modules covered essential topics such as personal finance management, budgeting, savings, and understanding the economic landscape. A key highlight of the program was the practical learning opportunity provided through a field visit to a bank, where students gained firsthand insights into banking operations and financial services.
Impact and Outcomes:
The workshop proved to be invaluable in imparting crucial life skills that students will carry with them into adulthood. The core objective of equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their personal finances was successfully achieved. Additionally, the program sparked interest in careers within the financial sector, inspiring students to consider financial services as a viable career option.
In summary, these Financial Literacy Workshops were not only educational but also transformative, laying the foundation for improved financial decision-making, economic stability, and expanded career possibilities for students across Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
